About Us

Grounded in her background as an educator, Mary Middleton brings a teaching-first approach to conversations, helping clients understand their finances and feel confident navigating the decisions that shape their lives.

Through Middleton CPA, she leads a talented all-women team dedicated to helping clients approach financial and tax decisions with clarity and confidence.

Mary graduated in 1999 from Guilford College with a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology and a minor in Education. She spent several years teaching and working in nonprofit organizations before returning to school in 2004 to pursue a Master of Accountancy at the University of Charleston. After graduating, Mary worked with CPA firms in Charleston before relocating with her husband and three children to Maine in 2012.

Once the kids were a bit older, Mary completed the CPA exam in 2015. Since that time, she has used her teaching background to help small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals better understand their finances and reduce the anxiety that often surrounds planning for and filing taxes.

Mary founded Middleton CPA, building the firm around the belief that financial and tax guidance should be collaborative, understandable, and grounded in real life. Today, she and her team work with individuals, families, and small business owners who want clarity around their finances and thoughtful guidance as decisions arise.

Outside of work, Mary spends as much time as possible outdoors—running, hiking, driving to kids’ sporting events, or volunteering in local schools. She helped found Girls on the Run Pen Bay, a branch of Girls on the Run Maine, and serves on the board of Trail Runners of Midcoast Maine. She also serves as Treasurer of Youth Arts, supporting arts education and programming in the Midcoast community.

Mary lives in Camden with her husband Frank, their three incredible children, three dogs, and two cats.

Mary is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Maine Society of CPAs (MECPA).
